Telegraph rates
Mrs. Gertrude Rothery of Augustus Downs Station transmitting the first morse message to Cloncurry Base V.J.I. by pedal wireless on 19 June 1929. This set was allocated the call-sign of 8XF. None of this particular model, the first made by Aldred Traeger, are known to have survived. The initial message was in the form of a telegram sending greetings to the A.I.M. office in Sydney. When received at Cloncurry Base by the radio officer, Maurie Anderson, it was redirected through Cloncurry Post Office into the P.M.G. landline telegraph system. (Description supplied with photograph). The R.F.D.S. Cloncurry base was the first operational base in Australia, later relocating to Mt. Isa.
